Dave attended The University of Sydney, where he received a B.Sc. with First Class Honours and the University Medal (2001−2004) for his supramolecular chemistry research under Len Lindoy. He stayed on at Sydney to study DNA-binding metallocycles with Lou Rendina, research for which he was awarded a Ph.D. (2005−2009). Postdoc/lecturing stints at The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (2009−2014) with Tom Rauchfuss and the Institute for Basic Science (2014−2016) with Chris Bielawski saw him explore bio-organometallics and carbon materials, respectively. This experience was complemented by editorial roles at Springer Nature, principally at Nature Reviews Chemistry (2016−2021). A passion to satisfy his chemical curiosity made him join Texas State University as Assistant Professor (2021−). His interests lie in the synthesis and characterization of molecular complexes relevant to biology and catalysis. He is on the Editorial Board of Essential Chem, a new open-access broad-scope journal.
Aside from experiments in the lab, Dave also enjoys experiments in the kitchen (though these are met with mixed success), as well as pickleball, yoga, climbing, cycling, and socializing with his cats =^.^= =^.^=
